What brought you to study in Japan and motivated you to choose Meiji University?
日本への留学を志したきっかけと、明治大学を選んだ理由を教えてください。

What mainly brought me to study in Japan was my curiosity about Japanese culture and cuisine. Furthermore, I am very open minded and thus I was eager to get to know a culture very different from mine. My decision to apply specifically to Meiji was made on the basis that I wanted a highly rewarding university with a strong academic curriculum. In addition, Meiji University was recommended to me by my colleagues at my home university.

Where is your favorite place on the campus, and for what reason?
明治大学のキャンパスで好きな場所はどこですか？

I think my favorite place on the Surugadai Campus is definitely the cafeteria. The food was good, but most importantly, being able to enjoy a break with an amazing view was an amazing energy booster. In addition, I associate that place with being a great environment for socializing and getting to know people outside of my classes. Also, the community area outside campus was also an amazing place to get to know new people.

What was your favorite course and why did you like it?
好きな授業を教えてください。

I think my favorite course that I took was International Management B. I believe that professor Dassanayake made the class very interesting and engaging. The topics that were covered in the class were also extremely interesting for the current globalization of MNEs. In addition, we had Dilhan Fernando (CEO of Dilmah Tea) as a special speaker, and this was an extremely interesting case study.

What most surprised you about living in Japan?
日本に来て驚いたところは？

Something that surprised me for the better about living in Japan was the high level of politeness and respect that people show to others. Especially for a foreigner in Japan, it felt that people were very welcoming.

What was the biggest challenge in your student life in Japan, compared to that in your own country?
自分の国の学生生活と比べて、日本の学生生活で大変だと感じるところは？

I think the main challenge I faced was regarding language. Back in Argentina or Spain (where I currently live), I am used to communicating in Spanish with my friends. It was definitely interesting to abandon Spanish altogether and use English to communicate full time.

What did you enjoy the most in your student life in Japan, compared to that in your country?
自分の国の学生生活と比べて、日本の学生生活で楽しいところは？

I think what I enjoyed the most in my time in Japan as a student was to get to know so many new people. Being able to have conversations with people that have different backgrounds from mine was significantly stimulating.

What is your dream for the future?
将来の夢は何ですか？

I think my dream for the future is to both work in the finance sector of an NGO and to have a lifestyle which allows me to travel. I would love to be able to travel from country to country after a few years. I would also love to come back to Japan at some point of my life as well!

Introduce your country. Describe how attractive your country is.
故郷の国の紹介や、自慢をしてください。

Although I am from Argentina, I have lived most of my life abroad. Nonetheless, I regularly go back to visit friends and family. Argentina is a wonderful country in terms of culture and cuisine; going from a dance class of Tango to a classic asado meal, are some of the interesting activities you could enjoy. Argentinians are very social and outgoing, so it is definitely easy to meet up with new people. I highly recommend Argentina to anyone who hasn’t yet been there.

Enjoy it! Time goes by quickly, find the best balance between your academic work and your social life. Seize the moment and always try to make the best of it!
