What brought you to study in Japan and motivated you to choose Meiji University?
日本への留学を志したきっかけと、明治大学を選んだ理由を教えてください。

I have always dreamed of visiting all continents, but I was missing Asia, and specially Japan. Since I was a child, I have always been attracted by Japanese culture and its beautiful spots.

When I found out about the JDS (Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship) Program, I checked if I met the requirements to fulfill one more dream: studying and living in Japan. I was motivated to select the program, because this would help me broaden my knowledge and my perspective of seeing the world, as well as to contribute to my country to make a better society.

I selected Meiji University, because it really caught my attention that it is in the center of Tokyo and has all the necessary facilities to make life easier for the student, as well as because of the master’s degree option that was the most appropriate for my research project.

ずっと、世界中のすべての大陸を訪れることを夢見ていましたが、アジア、特に日本だけ訪問できていませんでした。私は子供の頃から、日本の文化や風景に魅力を感じていました。

JDS（人材育成奨学計画）の奨学金制度を知って、日本での勉強と生活を実現できることにワクワクしました。ガバナンス研究科を選択した理由は、自分の知識と世界を見る視野を広げ、より良い社会を作るために母国に貢献するのに役立つからです。

明治大学を選んだ理由は、東京の中心部にあり、学生生活をより良く過ごすためのすべての施設を備えていることにとても引かれたことと、私の研究に最も適した課程があったからです。

Where is your favorite place on the campus, and for what reason?
明治大学のキャンパスで好きな場所はどこですか？

【Study space at Building 14】／【14号館の学習スペース】

It has individual spaces, individual lighting, good internet connection, electrical outlets, comfortable chairs, and a good air conditioning system. It seems to me that this is the perfect place to concentrate and study.

机、照明、インターネット回線、コンセント、座り心地の良い椅子、空調などが全て完備されており、集中して勉強するのに最適な場所です。

Favorite course and the reason why you like it
好きな授業を教えてください。

【Course】Quality Management in Japanese Public Sector
【Lecturer】Professor Nishide Junro Ph.D.
【Reason】This course allowed me to learn how the Japanese people work in the public sector and local governments such as Fukui prefecture proceeds to make and carry out public policies. Furthermore, I could also learn more about the local culture and heritage in that prefecture. This was not only theory but also how it was applied to the real world.

What is the surprise to you living in Japan?
日本に来て驚いたところは？

I have been to other countries, but I have never been as surprised as in Tokyo. The most amazing thing is the train system and how big some stations are (more like airports), and the number of people who pass through there every day is definitely incredible. Despite this, the trains are extremely punctual like nowhere else.

いろいろな国に旅しましたが、東京ほど驚かされた都市はありません。最も驚くべきことは、鉄道のシステムと巨大な駅（まるで空港みたい）で、それを毎日利用している人の数はとても信じられません。それにもかかわらず、列車は他に類を見ないほど時間厳守で運行しています。

What is the challenge in your student life in Japan, compared to that in your country?
自分の国の学生生活と比べて、日本の学生生活で大変だと感じるところは？

The biggest challenge is to integrate to the Japanese society. The customs and manners are different from those in my country, and sometimes it is assumed that I can understand everything, but it is possible to understand and learn about them with the time living into the society.

最大の挑戦は日本社会に溶け込むことで、習慣やマナーが私の国のそれとは異なることです。時には全てを理解できると思われることもありますが、実際に社会の中で生活するうちに理解し、学ぶことができるようになります。

What do you enjoy the most in your student life in Japan, compared to that in your country?
自分の国の学生生活と比べて、日本の学生生活で楽しいところは？

The most I have enjoyed is the multicultural environment of my Master’s Program. I have had the opportunity to know more about every country and taste delicious food that I never imagined before. In my country, it is not usual to have many people from different countries, cultures, and perspectives.

私が最も楽しんだのは、ガバナンス研究科の多文化環境です。いろいろな国々についてよりよく知り、これまで想像もしなかったおいしい食べ物を味わう機会もありました。 私の祖国では、出身国、文化、視点が異なる人たちと多く出会うことはあまりありません。

故郷の国の紹介や、自慢をしてください。

I come from El Salvador, located in Central America, it is the smallest in the region, but I personally love it. Despite of its size, it has a diversity of places which can be visited in a short time, even in the same day it is possible to visit volcanoes, beaches, and cities. We enjoy an enviable tropical climate throughout the year and very warm and friendly people, and without missing our delicious and very different gastronomy.

私は中央アメリカに位置するエルサルバドル出身で、この地域では最も小さい国ですが、エルサルバドルが大好きです。面積は小さいですが、短時間で周遊できるさまざまな場所があり、1日にのうちに、火山、ビーチ、都市をいっぺんに訪れることができます。私たちは一年中、心地よい熱帯気候を楽しんでおり、非常に温かくフレンドリーな人々がいますし、日本とはかなり異なりますがその美食は見逃せません。

Your message to Meiji University students
明大生へのメッセージをお願いします。

Please enjoy your stay at Meiji University, use its modern and beautiful facilities. Make a lot of friends, it doesn’t matter if they are foreigners or Japanese, integrate because that makes your stay at the University more enriching. And of course, enjoy the leisure, culture, and entertainment options that only Tokyo offers, and the best thing is that the university is very accessible to all places.

近代的で美しいキャンパスの明治大学での学生生活を楽しんでください。外国人、日本人を問わず、たくさんの友人をつくって、大学での生活をより豊かなものにしてください。 そしてもちろん、東京ならではのレジャー、文化、エンターテイメントを楽しんでください。明治大学はあらゆる場所にアクセスしやすいという利点があります。
